January 2021 GBOMB

Well, it appears 2021 will try to out-crazy 2020 but has distinctly chaotic neutral vibes rather than chaotic evil. That’s an upgrade. I went full-throttle in January. I have big plans and pathways at work, I’m spinning up a new side hustle, worked like crazy on our basement rental, got my house in order, took a girls trip, and read 6 books lol.

A big mantra for this month was “just keep moving.” When I hit a stall with something I just took a quick pivot to the next step or a different project. I didn’t slow down, I didn’t quit, I just shifted gears. And I’m starting February with a lot already under my belt.

Good

  • Florida!!! I went on my first ever girls trip, no kids! We did Harry Potter World and Animal Kingdom. Shopping, eating, not changing a single diaper. It was a riot.
  • Loney’s parent-teacher conference (she’s 3 lol) was delightful. Her teacher says she’s friends with everyone and tells everyone she loves them.
  • My three woman content team won an award for the work we did in 2020!
  • I’m in such a good place with reading. I’ve joined multiple book clubs and found tons of resources for keeping good recommendations coming in. I loved this article from Buzzfeed with actionable steps to reading more.
  • We’ve been watching the Marvel movies in chronological order and it’s the best. I put my computer away, get a big bowl of ice cream, and just unwind.
  • I am feeling stronger and stronger. I still have a long way to go, but man. I can feel the difference.
  • I just love my job. I love it. I’m exploring some new avenues in my work and I’m really excited.
  • Reese has been reading a chapter book with Ryan before bed and the other day she said “Sorry, dad, but I got carried away and finished the whole book without you last night.” my heartttttttttt

Bad

  • We had hoped to have renters in our basement apartment this month. But many issues and mistakes with the contractors have slowed us down. It’s been such a point of stress.
  • BAD DREAMS. Like crazy vivid, super weird, scary, and adrenaline-filled nightmares almost every night. Wtf????
  • Vasa kid care still has not returned. That means the Zumba classes I can conceivably attend are limited to two nights a week, which are usually not convenient to my schedule. UGH.
  • I’m feeling like our Scotland trip might not work out due to stupid Coronavirus still being around. There’s still a long time until July, but I’m going to have to temper my expectations in case travel restrictions make our anniversary trip impossible. 🙁
  • I’ve felt pretty spiritually numb and isolated lately. I got to attend the temple for the first time in over a year, but it was underwhelming and disappointing when I wanted a stronger experience. Bummer.

On My Brain

  • I’m always into goals and habits. Especially in January. I’ve also been called to do the goal-setting program for the Young Women in my ward so I’m excitedly diving back in! Loved this article about making things easier.
  • What do I want to learn how to do? Where do I want to take my side hustle? If I’m going to write on the side, what should it be? It feels good to have options and the energy to pursue them.
  • Medicine. I haven’t modified my Zoloft regimen, but my anxiety has been sizzling. I had a dream (lol yes one of those aforementioned panic nightmares) where I took CBD and felt better so… my first bottle of CBD arrives Wednesday. And I’m looking into medications for trichotillomania, of which I have a mild case with my hair-picking. I’m wondering if it’s time to make a switch to new meds.

February is all about my family! We’ve got the big girls’ birthdays and celebrating love with Valentine’s Day. We’re gonna try to squeeze in a trip to St. George with friends, celebrate our almost-here nephew with a baby shower, get renters into our apartment, and hustle our pants off. Who cares if the groundhog sees his shadow? I’m not waiting around for him to tell me what to do.
