I have been feeling so BLAH about my hair lately. Couple that with the existential crises of the past few months and I was ripe for a rash and impulsive hair decision. Would I cut it all off? Finally do the lavender color I have so desperately craved for 3 years now? Get a perm? Bleach it myself with store boxed color? (LOL my mom would murder me.)
I’m actually a huge fan of making big dramatic hair changes when you need them. It’s a joke amongst girls that you go get a crazy hair cut or rebellious change after a breakup, but I actually think it’s really therapeutic and often very good for redefinition. My bangs? As I’ll confess in this video: Cut after a breakup with a serious boyfriend, right before starting BYU. And they have kind of become my ~thing. I don’t regret that decision at all, though I’m sure people were like “Oh, honey.” At the time. Sometimes you gotta shake ish up.
I was feeling that itch. I was thinking about doing the ever-trendy lob again, because I don’t feel I gave it the good old college try last time. I wanted to go gray/white/platinum again because I really loved it and always admire the pictures I took during that time. I just knew that I was currently hating my hair, feeling so tired of it, and definitely in a funk. It felt like everything I tried wasn’t working. It felt like everything was too much work. Just blah blah blah blah blah.
After a brassy hair disaster from a random stylist while my mom was recovering from back surgery at the beginning of September, trying to fix the yellow, heal the coloring damage, and find my way back to loving my hair I have found a lot of new products and now I can honestly say I’m back on the horse and loving to do my hair again.
And because writing about it is never as fun, I took advantage of Reese’s sudden cooperation and quickly turned on my iPhone camera in my kitchen to talk about all my latest hair care finds and new styling tricks. Hopefully, if you’ve got 20 minutes to spend listening to my rapid void and watching my wonky eye, you’ll find something for you – especially if your hair is blonde and/or unbelievably straight like mine. Enjoy!
P.S. One day I’ll learn to make these right/cute, but for today… this is fine.

I want to be best friends. Also yes to It’s A 10. Freakingggggg amazingggggg.
I’m not blonde, but we have the same hair type! My favorite favorite favorite thing for volume is the Redken Full Frame Volumizing Mousse. WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. I use one pump at my roots, blow dry, and bam. Volume lasts for days. Feels ever so sliiiiiightly slightly gritty but won’t make your hair greasy at all. Also, something better than the It’s A 10 (which has alcohol in it and is ultimately drying for your already-dry hair…says the stylist at Ulta) is the Chi Silk Infusion. Awesome stuff.
Loved the video!! Definitely going to try the Tresemme stuff to see if I can get my hair to hold a curl.
I love this. Also, have you used a wand before to curl your hair? My hair is dead dead straight and never could hold a curl and I got a wand that does beachy waves and I don’t even have to use hairspray and they hold all day. It has changed my life. It does average curls on freshly clean hair but when I’m on like day 3, 4, 5, it is perfect.
I do have a wand and I think it works slightly better than my curling iron but it’s still not my fave! I need to practice more
