May GBOMB

May raced right past me. Filled with teething, puking, new jobs, and lots of family time it has been actually really good for me. Sickness always seems to come at a time that is least convenient for me and my perpetual lists, and forces me to slow down and really look at the important stuff. It forces me to readdress my limits and priorities. It always makes me a little sad to discover that I *can’t* do everything. I don’t know why it comes as a shock every.single.time. but it does. Like “Whaaaaaa? What do you mean I can’t sleep 4 hours a night and tackle a to-do list that’s 30 items long and spend time with my friends and be a good mom and a rockstar wife and an awesome blogger and make money and do my calling and watch as much Office as I want to????? Why notttt???” I’m a dummy.

So while May forced me to cancel trips and get more sleep and chill out on all my peripheral projects… it did allow me plenty of time with Reese and Ryan and our families. Maybe in June I’ll finally figure out what my balance is and strike it successfully. LOL no, I won’t. But I will try!

Good

  • Between Game of Thrones, The Catch, and The Bachelorette I’m feeling v blessed with good, entertaining television
  • I joined forces with some awesome moms to give you Exploring Utah With Kids – we check out parks & trails around the state and give reviews and ratings. Just in time for your summer exploration! Bridal Veil Falls was this week and it was lovely (above).
  • We finally hopped on the VidAngel wagon and yeah, it’s pretty rad actually
  • I got a massage last week and it was magical
  • I can’t believe I’m saying this but I bought a swimsuit at Costco and I love it so much
  • Tonight we’re seeing Peter Pan at the Tuacahn with my family and cousins and I’m so excited! Tuacahn shows are THE BEST.
  • I lost weight at my weigh-in this week!!!!

Bad

  • (I gained weight at every other weigh-in this month)
  • Two of The Beard’s family members have been hospitalized in the last two weeks and it’s been scary and sad. It always reminds you that “hey you’re not that cool or great or invincible don’t forget it!”
  • Because I was puking at 4 am I had to bail on the Harry Potter Book Club Retreat and everyone else decided we should just reschedule. No HPBC for May. 🙁
  • Will I ever be good at self-tanner? Signs point to no.
  • Reese had a blowout at IHOP, whilst covered in mac n cheese. It was exactly as you’d expect it to be.
  • You would think that staying home more this month would mean I’d have time to clean my house but on the contrary – I just had more time to dirty it up
  • I have tried so hard to just avoid the whole Frozen craze, and thanked my lucky stars that Reese was born after the primary outbreak. Unfortunately Reese has discovered YouTube and guess what her favorite video is? Kill me.
  • After trying to brainstorm and pre-write scheduled posts for the week I’ll be on vacation I just decided to take the week completely off. I think I’ve only missed once or twice this year (I had a goal to blog MWF), so that’s why I put this in the “bad” section. Otherwise I’m pretty happy about the little break! I’m hoping to come back inspired.

On My Brain

  • I have posted about this before, but now it has a female counterpart. ProvoGirlsAmIRight is an instagram account about the way girls deal with dudes in Provo – screenshots of texts, snaps, tinder, FB messages, etc. It’s mostly girls stringing guys along or coming up with ridiculous excuses to get out of dates. Now there’s ProvoGuysAmIRight and it’s wayyyyyyy more diverse. It ranges anywhere from clever Mormon one-liners, to dudes saying “I love you” after the first date, to guys who I’m pretty sure are rapists. It might make you angry. It might make you sad. It will definitely make you laugh occasionally. But I kind of feel like it’s super important to see. If you or someone you love is running single around Provo I think they should follow both of these accounts just for awareness alone!
  • Can’t stop won’t stop watching this teaser trailer! As a lil bb Danica I loved Ariel, and in high school I was (ironically?) into Sleeping Beauty because she was blonde and her prince was named Philip which was my hs bfs name (LOLZ). But to be honest I’ve always identified most with Belle – loves books, can’t be bossed, cries about libraries, loves a big grumpy hairy guy… and now with this Hermione connection I’ve never felt more understood. <3
  • In a few days I’ll be in Harry Potter World for the first time and every time I think about it I start to cry so I’ll be a happy lil mess when we get there.
  • Is it time to go platinum blonde again? Or the ashy platinum gray? I’ve got 6 weeks until my next appointment to decide.

Platinum Blonde! Also, can you please drink a butterbeer for me and then tell me all about it? And can you also recommend a good nighttime face cream/lotion/whatever responsible people have for their faces at night?

The self tanner struggle is real! I’ve tried it a few times and it never works out well. I keep going back and forth on Harry Potter Land. We live so close to Disneyland for the same price, and with my baby only a few months old I just can’t decide if its worth the drive, so I can’t wait to see your thoughts on the trip!

Belle has always been my favorite! I almost wish there wasn’t a teaser trailer because now I want the movie to come out now and we have to wait until next year. Ugh! And I’m so jealous you’re going to Disney and Harry Potter World.
