Reese’s Nursery Reveal (?)

Idk reveal sounds a little dramatic to me. Like it wasn’t a secret. I didn’t rope it off with police line tape. Plenty of people have seen it. Especially since she’s over a year old. Yeah. I’m really on top of this mommy blogger game.

I spent plenty of time on Pinterest like any sentient pregnant girl, but I didn’t have a super firm vision of what I wanted. The nursery is tiny, which is good. I knew I didn’t want a firm theme that would tie my hands (“the theme is owls so EVERYTHING HAS TO BE OWLS!!!!”). I knew I didn’t want it to be a pink explosion. I knew I wanted books basically everywhere and I wanted those cool ledge-shelves full of colorful, pretty covers. And I knew I liked black, white, and gold. So I started from there.

I picked out the crib first and I really like the attached changing table – which is why I chose this one in the first place. And you know the story of Reese’s Panda Patronus. I saw the gold dots on Groopdealz and climbed onto the crib while 8 months pregnant to stick them in a confetti shower design.

The gallery wall is my favorite thing about Reese’s room, because it’s so eclectic (and over the top, I’m well aware). I gathered the art canvases and picture frames randomly over the duration of my pregnancy, and a few are even recent additions. My girl Madi made the Harry Potter and Star Wars watercolors for me, and my sweetest friend Erica made that dreamy embroidery loop. Sometimes when I look at them for too long I start to cry because it just makes me so happy. I love that it’s so random, but each individual piece means something to me – and Reese.

I love my rocking chair, and so does Reese. We have spent countless hours, together snuggling and individually, reading and playing and nursing and snapchatting in that rocking chair. The cute little floral handkerchief is from my brother while he was in Japan.

Of course this bookshelf basically never looks like this. The books are usually erupting from the shelf, the Tsum-Tsums are being carried all over the house, and there’s a half-finished can of Diet Coke perched on top. That’s the way I like it though. I want at least some of the books down at her level, where she can get to them whenever she wants. And boy does she want.

On the rare occasion that she doesn’t want to read a book she will pull all of her stuffed animals out one by one and hug and pat them on the back.

Moar books, the packs of baseball cards The Beard buys for her for every present occasion. Sophie the Giraffe, because she drives Glen Coco wayyyy to crazy to just be out and accessible.

I realize this calendar is a year old but it’s just SO GORGEOUS! My best friend Eliesa gave it to me for the nursery and I’m never getting rid of it. And the clothing hook was something I saw in my cousin Chelsey’s nursery for her little dude Miles and I just loved it, so I bought one and installed it last week.

A few people have asked me about how I store all of Reese’s headbands, of which we have way too many a lot. The lacy ones I put in a pretty clear plastic candy jar on the bookshelf. The thick turbans I put in that black & white striped desk caddy that I got from Target, also on the bookshelf. But the best are these command hook knobs. I stuck them in a row on the inside of her closet and then hang the headbands by color. Easy peasy.

Oh yeah. And The Beard insisted that there was some Red Sox paraphernalia in her room and I said absolutely not and then he put it up high and said what are you gonna do about it shorty? and then left and here we are.

My Best Nursery Advice

  • Don’t get married to everything in the room before the baby comes. The biggest reason it took me a YEAR to get the nursery to a good point was because you gotta keep changing and developing it to work for you and your baby.
  • Comfort, Comfort, Comfort. Keep a blanket & pillow on your nursing chair, with a shelf or ledge close by for drinks and snacks. And you better make sure there’s an outlet to charge your phone. That’s just JV level stuff.
  • Who cares how cute it looks? Your baby certainly doesn’t. Make it fun for them. Put toys at their level, books where they can reach them.
  • Imagine your kid crawling to everything that’s on floor level and pulling the contents out and scattering them all over the room 15x a day. I’m not saying it’s bad. I’m just saying it’s gonna happen. So if you neatly lined up all of those fancy moccasins on a low shelf you’re gonna wanna rethink that decision.

Thanks for stopping by Reese’s nursery! By the time you read this it will already look like a board book bomb went off in there. Happy Friday!
