After the feedback on my posts about The Glass Castle and how I read Divergent recently, I was thinking about how much I love reading and discussing books. The book club I’m part of now is pretty weird and not really doing it for me – the last few books they picked were AWFUL.
I started thinking – Why don’t I start my own book club, where we’d only read awesome books and have an amazing time? I threw the idea out there to a few people, and it very rapidly turned into a Harry Potter book club idea. There are no other books I enjoy discussing more than these books, and I think they just have so much potential for deep conversation and soul searching. That’s all you need.
You guys get me.
I’ve reached out via text, twitter and Facebook and received and OVERWHELMING cry of support and interest, which was so incredible. We can totally do this, you guys.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
- Start in January, since the next couple months are insane with holiday stuff
- Meet at the end of the month in a public location – probably a restaurant
- Meet first in the north part of Utah Valley, then move the location around as the interested parties are scattered in Utah and Salt Lake County
- Out of town friends (my AZ girls, where you at?!) can participate with the discussion via my blog – I will post the discussion questions and my thoughts the day of the club meeting and you ladies can leave comments we can discuss
- I will supply a reading and discussion questions at the beginning of the month for you to think about as you read.
- We will start with Sorcerer’s Stone in January, and move through the series month by month, but reserve the right to take off a month or take two months for a longer book (Goblet or Order) if we deem it necessary
- Friends are encouraged and invited to join at any time.
- I will start a Facebook group and email list where I will post the questions and next club meeting info
- We will play Quidditch at least once and take photos like this

i am so in! i haven’t read the books since a very young child and i haven’t watched all the movies since i realized i hate movie theaters 🙁

duhhhhh I am so in. And you know the fact that I am committing to this EVEN though I am having a baby the end of January means I love this idea THAT much. Also I am like a few hours away from being done with book 7 and so I love that I have a reason to start the series all over again. Love this, love you, love HP. For life.
It’s a shame you think Malcolm Gladwell writes awful books. He came to Salt Lake and gave a really great lecture.
